An Interview with Matt Dent: Graphic Designer

Matt Dent is a Graphic Designer, whose work can be found in every shop, pocket and piggy bank in Britain, so we thought we’d ask him a little bit about his life as a Graphic Designer - before, and after he designed the New UK coins. Now, at 27, he is a Director of the design agency 3 Fish in a Tree in London, but still finds time to indulge in personal projects ranging from a book about disadvantaged gentlemen, interesting uses of typography, and coinage.

“What is your favourite part of your job?”

“Getting paid to be creative. More specifically, when a client approves your vision for a project. There’s that buzz of excitement about starting something new, a feeling that is hard to match.”

A Career in Illustration, by Emma Dibben

Since graduating in 2004, Emma has worked as a freelance Illustrator based at Jamaica Street Studios, Bristol, for a wide range of clients including Waitrose Food Illustrated.

“After I graduated, I spent five days in London going to see as many publishers, magazines, and newspapers as possible. I started off with only about three appointments but gradually my week filled up until I had really bad blisters and very sore feet!”
